Dishpit is a place restaurant workers tell each other the truth about restaurant jobs.
Not what HR says. Not what the manager promised in the interview. What the people who actually worked there — line cooks, servers, bartenders, dishwashers, hosts, support staff — say when no one's listening.
Why this exists
If you've worked in restaurants, you know the deal: you take a job based on a 15-minute interview, an Indeed listing, and what your friend who worked there in 2019 told you. You walk in on day one and learn what it's actually like — the tip-out structure, whether the GM yells at people, what closing sidework actually looks like — from inside, by living it.
That's not how it should work. Workers should be able to know what they're getting into before they show up. From people like them. Not from the restaurant's marketing.
Dishpit is that. A place to read what other workers said about working at a restaurant before you take the job. Built by someone who's been in the weeds. Available to other people who've been in the weeds.
How it works (the short version)
- Invite only. You get a code from a worker who already has one. You sign up. You're in.
- Anonymous to operators. Restaurants can't see who reviewed them. Ever. That's the core promise.
- Worker-to-worker. Reviews are by workers, for workers. Restaurants aren't on the platform yet.
- Free to workers, forever.
Who's behind this
I grew up in Charleston and worked in restaurants for nearly twenty years.
The whole time, I needed something like this. I saw the pain points from inside — the things workers don't get told before they show up, the questions you can't ask in interviews, the jobs that turn out completely different than they were sold. I kept waiting for someone else to build it. Nobody did. So eventually I built it myself.
Restaurant workers deserve transparency about the jobs they're considering. That's what this is.
Dishpit is built solo, slowly, in the open, and on purpose.
